A quick chat with Andrew Castle
Former tennis player, GMTV host and Strictly Come Dancing star Andrew Castle talks about Divided, his new teatime quiz... So what is so different about Divided? "Well, contestants are put into teams of three and there is a devilish twist. At the end the winners have to decided how to split the money and they have to do it unevenly. They have to decide who takes 60 per cent of the money, who gets 30 per cent, and who receives just 10 per cent. If they don’t agree on how to divide it, they then get 100 seconds to argue it out. The longer they take, the less they win, and if the clock goes down to zero they’ll have nothing left." Sounds like things could get nasty? "It gets pretty vicious at the end – Jeremy Kyle’s show is next door to us and we could have used the security a couple of times!" Have there been some strange arguments? "We did have somebody argue about how they should have the highest amount because the kids needed a family holiday and she was very weepy at the end because a lot of her money disappeared. What’s interesting is the difference between the sexes in negotiating techniques – I’m fairly convinced women are harder negotiators than men!" So what is your role? "Well, besides asking the questions I act as a sort of peacemaker when the arguing starts." What else are you doing at the moment? "Well, besides GMTV, Wimbledon will be starting soon so I need to prepare for that especially my fashion rivalry with John McEnroe. He always turns up with about 10 suits and we have a competition on who’s got the nicest lining. I’m going to win this year – I’ve got two suits that I think will blow him away!" Are you still doing any dancing after your Strictly experience? "My wife Sophia and I are having lessons. It’s nice dancing with a loved one, and not have Craig Revel Horwood telling me that I’m rubbish!" Divided screens on ITV1 weekdays
