Ali G creator to play it straight for Spielberg
Sacha Baron Cohen is reported to be setting comedy aside to star in Steven Spielberg's new political drama. The funnyman - who won international fame with his comic creations Ali G and Borat - is to appear in political flick The Trial Of The Chicago Seven, reports The Times. He is apparently set to play the lead character Abbie Hoffman, a famed 1960s counterculture protester who played pranks in his campaign against the Vietnam War. So far there's no word on who else might star in the film, which is not expected to hit cinema screens until 2010. It's far from Sacha's first silver screen experience. As well as his Borat hit, he voiced a character in 2005 film Madagascar and popped up in Will Ferrell's film Talladega Nights in 2006. He'll next be seen alongside A-listers like Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter in musical movie Sweeney Todd, playing barber Signor Adolpho Pirelli. As well, a feature film based on his gay fashion reporter character Bruno is expected later in 2008.
