Anna Friel signs up for World War II drama series

Anna Friel has signed up to the cast of The Heavy Water War, a TV series on a similar theme to Danny Boyle's upcoming Telemark.

Both series will look at the part Norway played in World War II and The Heavy Water War will concentrate on a 1943 raid on a Norwegian factory plant to stop production of heavy water for a Nazi atomic bomb.

According to Deadline, Anna has joined th series which will be directed by Norway's Per-Olav Sorensen and will feature Norwegian actors Espen Kloumann Hoiner and Dennis Storhoi and German actor Christoph Bach, as well as Pip Torrens.

Telemark, helmed by Danny Boyle, concentrates on the British-trained Norwegian resistance fighters who sabotaged Hitler's nuclear development and as yet has not cast the lead roles.

An entertainment writer with a diverse taste in TV and film, he lists Seinfeld, The Sopranos, The Chase, The Thick of It and Detectorists among his favourite shows, but steers well clear of most sci-fi.
