It’s been a star-studded evening in London’s Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, with some big wins from the very best of the small screen.
Highlights include a surprise win in the Leading Actress category with Georgina Campbell picking up an award for BBC3’s emotive drama, Murdered By My Boyfriend. Leaving many wondering what this means for the channel which may, or may not, be axed in the near future!
Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sherlock was outsmarted for a third time, with Jason Watkins picking up Leading Actor for ITV’s The Lost Honour of Christopher Jefferies.
It wasn’t all doom & gloom for Sherlock, however, as the show won the Radio Times’ Audience Award.
Supporting Actor went to Stephen Rae for The Honourable Woman. Supporting Actress was picked up by Marvellous’ Gemma Jones.
Ant & Dec’s trophy cabinet is rumoured to be close to breaking point, after the duo added best Entertainment Programme AND Entertainment Performance for Saturday Night Takeaway to their ever-growing gong collection.
The best Female Performance in a Comedy went to Jessica Hynes for BBC’s W1A, while Matt Berry picked up the Male Performance in a Comedy for Toast of London.
The Single Drama category was awarded to Marvellous. Coronation Street honoured much-loved Anne Kirkbride, who played Deirdre Barlow, when they received the award for best Soap & Continuing Drama.
Best Drama Series went to Happy Valley. The Comedy Entertainment honour was given to The Graham Norton Show.
Dispatches won best Current Affairs for their Children on the Frontline feature. While Sky News Live at Five: Ebola was awarded best News Coverage. The Paedophile Hunter was chosen for best Single Documentary. Life and Death Row was awarded best Factual Series. And Channel 4’s Jon Snow was awarded the Fellowship accolade.
Meanwhile The Island with Bear Grylls picked up the best Reality and Constructed Factual. Grand Designs snapped up best Features. True Detective landed the best International. And Grayson Perry’s Who Are You? won Specialist Factual.
Scripted Comedy went to Mackenzie Crook for Detectorists. And while Sheridan Smith failed to pick up anything this year, Cilla and Mrs Biggs writer, Jeff Pope, was awarded this year’s Special Award.
And last, but by no means least, Sport & Live Event category was awarded to WW1 Remembered – From The Battlefield & Westminster Abbey.
