A poor Bargain Hunt duo managed to lose £70 on today's show after foolishly splashing out £90 on a donkey head prop used for pantos!

In a rerun of the Bargain Hunt Entertainment Special, host Christina Trevanion took a look back on some of the many purchases from the world of entertainment.

Among the many teams featured, one dynamic duo decided they would splash some cash on one of the most unique items on display... a giant paper mache donkey head thought to be a theatre prop.

Solmaz and Michael, students from the University of Sussex, said they were on the hunt for "something with a sparkle", though weird and wonderful was the order of the day alongside their expert, Gary Pe.

Whilst the pair were searching for something to bring to auction, Gary spotted a collection of paper mache prop costume heads. The two students managed to negotiate the seller down to £95 and walked away with the marvelous mule in the process.

They were all smiles when Gary Pe acted the prize pony and tried the donkey head on before they picked it up, but they weren't nearly as happy when it came time to try and flip it at auction. Bidders didn't exactly go braying mad for the bizarre costume piece and it ended up selling for just £25...way less than what the two students paid for it.

It's safe to say the reds had more confidence in their star buy than the auctioneer. When asked what she thought, she said the purchase "filled me with horror cause I thought... who's gonna buy this?!" and was simply shocked by how much they paid for it. Despite her best efforts to convince the crowds to join in, the bidders were not very interested whatsoever, and it sold for just £25. At least the entertainment value was high?

It wasn't the biggest loss of the Bargain Hunt Entertainment Special, as another team had a box office flop with an antique camera that lost them £80 at auction, and a third pair failed to make a profit on their Muffin the Mule puppet, which lost £25 after selling.

Bargain Hunt continues on weekdays at 12.15 pm on BBC One. For more shows to enjoy, check out our TV guide.
