Benedict Cumberbatch channels inner scruff for Doctor Strange
Best known for his roles in BBC1’s Sherlock and 2014 film The Imitation Game, Oscar-nominated actor Benedict Cumberbatch is known for his sartorial flair and dapper appearance.
But fans should prepare themselves for a change because his role as Doctor Strange in the new Marvel film of the same sees him portray a more than dishevelled neurosurgeon on the hunt for the mystical powers that can heal his injured hands.
Some of the scenes for the film, which co-stars Chiwetel Ejiofor and Tilda Swinton, are being shot in Nepal and 39-year-old Benedict looked more like a backpacker seriously down on his luck.

It’s unlikely to be bothering the actor, though. When his part in the film was confirmed, he said he was: “Excited. Really excited. There’s a lot of work to be done and I’m just at the beginning of it all so I’m not going to talk too much about it but it’s a thrilling gig to get. I just can’t wait. Very excited."
12 Years a Slave actor Chiwetel is playing Baron Mordo, while We Need to Talk about Kevin star Tilda is a villainous former student of The Ancient One.
