Jack Whitehall: Travels with My Father/ Netflix

Jack Whitehall: Travels with My Father

Having started in stand-up comedy at 17, Jack Whitehall feels he missed out on a gap year. So in this new series, Jack is heading to southeast Asia with his 77-year-old dad Michael in tow. ‘Very bad with foreign people,’ Michael also struggles with foreign food, foreign culture, and his son, Jack. Beyond the script, this series is travel TV at its best in the glimpses it catches of Jack and Michael’s relationship and the obvious bond they have. Rating: ****

One Mississippi/ Amazon Prime Video

One Mississippi

American stand-up comedian Tig Notaro’s wonderful semi-autobiographical comedy-drama, co-written by Diablo Cody (of Juno fame), is back on Amazon for a second six-part series. As it begins, Tig is still harbouring feelings for colleague Kate (Stephanie Allynne, Tig’s real-life wife), while her straitlaced stepfather Bill is horrified to learn he has an admirer… At once bittersweet, moving and hilarious.
