Dark drama Bates Motel, a prequel to Alfred Hitchcock’s classic thriller Psycho, centres on the lives of tormented teenager Norman Bates and his domineering mother Norma.

Set in the modern day, the series opens with widow Norma (Vera Farmiga) and son Norman (British actor Freddie Highmore) moving from Arizona to the fictional US town of White Pine Bay, Oregon, where they purchase a rundown motel. Norma plans to reopen the motel and build a new life for her and her son, following the death of Norman’s father.
Norma and Norman’s fresh start is quickly derailed, however, by a brutal murder, the unexpected arrival of a volatile figure from the past and a shock discovery in one of the motel rooms.
Follow Norman's downward spiral, Norma's desperate attempts to protect him, and the sinister goings-on in White Pine Bay in the first three series of Bates Motel on Netflix now.
Dianne Wiest, James Brolin and Colin Hanks (Roswell, Fargo, son of Tom) head the starry cast of US comedy series Life in Pieces. The sitcom charts the lives of the Short family – matriarch Joan (a therapist), her retired pilot husband James, and their three adult children: Greg (who becomes a dad in the series opener), Heather (a mum of three) and Matt (recently divorced and living with his parents).

There’s never a dull moment for the Shorts, whose comedic crises and awkward encounters include the unexpected consequences of childbirth, a tooth-shattering game of ping-pong and a mock funeral.
Each episode is just 21-minutes long and consists of four stories, following a different branch of the family. The entire first series is available on Amazon Video now, with a second series due later this year.
