Former East 17 frontman Brian Harvey says the opportunity to be one of the acts to represent the UK in Eurovision 'pulled me out of my nightmare'. Brian, who appeared in the fourth series of I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!, is one of six acts set to appear on Eurovision: Making Your Mind Up, the BBC One show to select the UK entry for this year’s Eurovision Song Contest final, being held in Helsinki on May 12. Brian will be competing for a place against hip-hop outfit Big Brovaz, former Atomic Kitten star Liz McClarnon, pop quartet Scooch, UK newcomer Cyndi, and Justin Hawkins and Beverlei Brown (Hawkins & Brown). In May 2005, Brian ended up in a critical condition after being run over by the wheels of his own car. He told whatsontv.co.uk: "People weren't sure if I would live or die, and doctors said I would never walk again, but here I am doing this." Pleased to be back in the spotlight, Brian is confident that his song, I Can, will put the UK firmly back on the Eurovision map. "It's a universal song and the lyrics are so relevant to me," he said. "I'm hoping I can take this song all the way. And to get through this stage and then go on to win in the final would be amazing – what a turnaround." Despite his reputation for being an East End geezer, Brian is thrilled to be involved in Eurovision. "If I can play holiday camps, then Eurovision's definitely a step up!" Making Your Mind Up will be on BBC1 on March 17.
