Cheryl Fergison: 'It'd be fun to be George Michael!'

Will ex-EastEnder Cheryl Fergison hit the right notes as Your Face Sounds Familiar (ITV, Saturday) continues?

You're best known for playing Heather Trott in EastEnders - have you enjoyed showing people your musical side on Your Face Sounds Familiar?

"Definitely! I write songs and I've always played instruments, so this show has given me a platform for people to see something different to what I was doing in EastEnders for five years. I've sung in public, but nothing on this scale - I just hope I never trip up, no costumes fall off and I sing in tune."

You've already been transformed into Sixties' legend Dusty Springfield, and you'll be performing as Anastacia this coming Saturday. Are you nervous about the show's 'Randomiser' choosing the artist you'll perform as each week?

"I was shocked to find out I was going to imitate Dusty because she's such an icon. Not knowing who I'm going to be each week is what makes this show exciting. I think I suit men's voices; I always thought it would be fun to become George Michael as Heather was such a fan!"

You starred opposite fellow contestant Bobby Davro on EastEnders. Is there any rivalry between you?

"Bobby's a good friend, but on this show he's my rival, especially as he's known for being an impressionist. If this show included duets, we could have been Sonny and Cher - or Elton John and Kiki Dee!"

You're also reunited with your former Celebrity Big Brother housemate Julian Clary, who's judging with Emma Bunton...

"When I signed up for this show, Julian asked: 'Does that mean I've got to hear your singing again?', as I always sang in the house. I love Julian, but if he gives me too much stick, I'll just have to give some back!"

Are you having fun being on the show? And would you like to do more with music in the future?

"We're all having a real blast and I just want to entertain people while trying to raise money for my chosen charity, ChYps children's hospice. In terms of a music career, it would be lovely to share some of my songs with other people. Life's too short, so if you have a dream, you have to follow it and make it happen."
