Coleen McLoughlin signs for ITV
Coleen McLoughlin has been signed up as a presenter for ITV in an exclusive two-year deal. The fiancee of Manchester United and England footballer Wayne Rooney is to host a number of daytime and primetime programmes for ITV1 and ITV2 between now and 2009. Her first project is an ITV2 series made by television company Initial. Coleen's Real Women will see her on a mission to find naturally beautiful women for genuine high profile modelling assignments. Only amateurs will be eligible, with professional models barred. Layla Smith, controller of alternative programmes at ITV said: "I think she's the perfect face and a great personality for ITV. She's someone who's found huge recognition and yet remained completely grounded and true to herself, we look forward to her bringing a fresh outlook to ITV." McLoughlin said: "I'm absolutely delighted to be joining ITV, it is a true home of family entertainment and I can't wait to be a part of it." Coleen, 21, already has previous presenting experience. Last year she hosted a special edition of Tonight with Trevor McDonald on genetic Rett syndrome. Of her new show, she said: "I want to give ordinary people the same opportunities I've had and persuade the most image conscious in the world that bigger doesn't necessarily mean bad."
