Comic Matt Lucas splits from partner
Little Britain star Matt Lucas and his partner have split 18 months after getting 'married' in a civil partnership ceremony. Matt and Kevin McGee, who were together for four-and-a-half years, said in a joint statement that their separation was 'amicable'. The statement, from legal representatives Mishcon de Reya and Withers LLP, said: "It is with sadness that Matt and Kevin announce that their relationship has come to an end. "Their separation is amicable. They ask the press to respect their privacy at this time and to exercise restraint in any reporting of this matter." Matt and Kevin's civil partnership ceremony took place at Home House, a private members' club in London, in December 2006. The service was followed by a lavish pantomime-themed reception at Banqueting House in Whitehall, and was one of the biggest showbiz events of the year. Matt, 34, dressed up as Aladdin while TV producer Kevin went as Prince Charming. Guests included Sir Elton John as Captain Hook and Courtney Love as the Queen of Hearts. Matt's comedy partner David Walliams, who was not best man, attended as a spoof Christopher Biggins. Other guests included Paul O'Grady, Steve McFadden and Barbara Windsor as the Fairy Godmother. Matt said before the ceremony: "We are very much in love - but also it's important that gay couples have the same rights as straight couples."
