Coronation Street: Behind the scenes with Hayley and Roy in Romania
Corrie stars David Neilson, Julie Hesmondhalgh and Katherine Kelly talk about Roy, Hayley and Becky’s adventures in a 90-minute special, Romanian Holiday
In the one-off DVD special, Hayley and Roy travel to Romania for the wedding of former Street resident Frankie Baldwin
Leaving his cafe for a week is adventure enough for Roy – but events take some unexpected turns after the Croppers bump into Becky
Katherine Kelly, who plays Becky in the soap, told TV Times she had to wear her character's clothes when her own bag went missing!
It was jingle all the way as the Street stars travelled through the Transylvanian countryside on a traditional horse and cart
David Neilson, who plays Roy, first visited Romania 10 years ago to see an eclipse of the sun
Julie Hesmondhalgh (Hayley) was happy to escape rainy Weatherfield for some Eastern European sunshine
Katherine would have liked to soak up some rays – but was banned from sunbathing. ‘Tans aren’t good for continuity,’ she explains
Roy rarely smiles – but David saw the funny side as Katherine told him about her wardrobe problems
‘I realised I’m not actually that high maintenance as I lasted for two days without my suitcase!’ laughs Katherine
‘The mountains where we filmed were really gorgeous,’ says Katherine. ‘But it was really hot – about 100 degrees.’
Julie also felt the heat, but enjoyed meeting Benidorm star Siobhan Finneran, who plays one of the other wedding guests. The Romanian Holiday DVD is on sale now
