Coronation Street fans devastated after THIS popular character is killed – off-screen
It was a sad night for Corrie fans…
Coronation Street fans were left distraught on Friday night after beloved soap favourite Archie Shuttleworth died.
And to make matters even worse, viewers didn’t actually get to see Archie’s final moments because he was killed off-screen.
It was left to Audrey Roberts to reveal the upsetting news to pal Rita Tanner after she received a phone call to inform her that her dear friend had passed away.
And viewers couldn’t believe their ears, with many taking to Twitter to express their sadness over Archie’s death.
One saddened fan said: “Archie is one of my favourite characters in Corrie history, particularly liked the storyline of Audrey and Archie's friendship and him supporting her during the Richard Hillman storyline.”
Another added: “No, not Archie Shuttleworth. I loved him. #Corrie #RIPArchie.”

A fourth commented: “So sad to hear the sad news about Audrey's friend Archie!!”
It’s been almost a decade since undertaker Archie, played by Roy Hudd, last appeared on the cobbles.
He was a close friend of Blanche Hunt and was last seen attending her funeral in 2010.
Before that he made a brief return in 2006 to organise factory boss Mike Baldwin’s funeral.
His first exit from the soap was in 2003 after his proposal of marriage to Audrey was sadly rejected.
Archie had developed feelings for the salon owner after hiring her to style hair on his ‘clients’.
He eventually fell in love with her while helping her through her ordeal with sinister son-in-law Richard Hillman, who had tried to kill her.
You'll be missed, Archie...
