Corrie's Katie McGlynn reveals she needed therapy during tragic Sinead Tinker storyline: ‘I was mourning her’
The Corrie actress had her final scenes aired on Friday night
Coronation Street actress Katie McGlynn has revealed that she needed counselling to cope with her character Sinead Tinker’s harrowing death storyline.
The actress confessed that she couldn’t stop crying after she filmed the scene in which Sinead was told she only had weeks left to live.
“It was like the storyline got embedded in my head – I couldn’t stop thinking about it and crying,” she told the Sunday Mirror.
“I was sitting on my sofa watching the programme in which Sinead is told she has weeks to live, and I started to cry.
“The next day I just kept crying. I couldn’t stop. I ended up going to see a counsellor who told me that I was mourning Sinead.”
She continued: “A month later I still feel like I’m really mourning her. It feels like waves of sadness coming over me.

"One minute I’ll be all right, then the next I’m in tears. It might sound weird, but to me Sinead has always been real."
She added: "The counsellor told me, ‘Katie, you are grieving for Sinead’.
“I hadn’t realised what was happening at the time but it made sense when she said it.
"She said I’d got so good at differentiating myself from Sinead that she had become like a friend to me."
Corrie fans were left sobbing on Friday night as Sinead sadly lost her battle to cancer and bowed out of the soap after seven years.
Katie took to Twitter moments after the emotionally charged scenes were aired to thank everyone for their continued support. Including co-star Rob Mallard who played her on-screen husband Daniel Osbourne.
She tweeted: “Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your amazing support and love… thank you to every single person who makes Coronation Street the brilliant show that it is and most importantly, THANK YOU to every single viewer for following Sinead’s journey.”
On working alongside Rob, Katie added: “My onscreen hubby and partner in crime @Rob_Mallard , you my darling have been absolutely incredible.
“I couldn’t have asked for a better actor to work alongside on this story and I can’t wait to carry on watching how it all unfolds for Daniel.”
