Couch Potato Pickings | Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging
There are three main things that concern the average 14-year-old English girl:
1. Kissing with confidence
2. Looking right
3. Having a foolproof plan to win the object of her affection
With the exception of those extraordinarily confident, independent youngsters who don’t care so much about fitting in, all of us girls have been there, and that's why I expected this film, from Bend It Like Beckham director Gurinder Chadha, to amuse me, even though I’m not 14 any more.
The story revolves around 14-year-old Georgia (Georgia Groome) who dreams of hooking up with handsome school newcomer Robbie. To attract her dream guy, she learns how to snog, how to dress and forges a masterplan to get her man with the help of her scrappy cat Angus.
Sadly, this film didn’t amuse me. Unlike those great teen/high school movies such as Mean Girls, Clueless, Heathers or The Breakfast Club, which appeal to all ages with their intelligent, witty and worldly takes on youngsters and their pubescent problems, this movie lacks the worldly vision and delivers little more than youngsters and their pubescent problems.

It doesn’t seem to be speaking to an audience beyond teenage girls sadly, but nevertheless, if you’re a teenage girl, I’m sure you’ll love it.
Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging is showing on Sky Movies Premiere today at 6pm, and various times throughout the week
