Couch Potato Pickings - Dynasty: The Making of a Guilty Pleasure

Many people of my generation will have played out this catfight between Alexis and Krystle with a sibling or a good friend.

Go on admit it.

This is the most famous spat between these warring shoulder-pad clad women but here's another with tasteful tangerine glamour and a third that probably resulted in a huge dry cleaning bill.

Dynasty a guilty pleasure, don't be ridiculous. What's guilt got to do with it? Dynasty is pure pleasure and Friday nights in the late 1980s were always the highlight of the week.

I was discussing this American soap opera with friends in the pub last week and we were all in passionate agreement that a Dynasty box set would provide a perfect antidote to a rainy weekend.

Since this splendid show left our screens, we've been deprived. Footballers' Wives filled the void for a while but without the over-the-top spectacle that was 80's glamour, even Joany's role in the show couldn't quite match the delight that was Dynasty.

This afternoon's TV movie is a drama about the tantrums on and off set. It doesn't feature any of the original cast, but it's a must-see anyway.

In fact, because this film would be the perfect start to a full-on Colby/Carrington weekend, I'm going to record it and see if I can get my hands on a box set of the show so that I can make that idea a reality.

A weekend slobbing on the couch is, of course, rather lazy and unhealthy, but I can think of a brilliant way to exercise...

Hmm, I wonder if my local charity shop will have something with shoulder pads in tangerine. I can't be the one wearing fuschia, it just isn't my colour...
