Couch Potato's Tuesday Trivia: Bringing in the May in The Wicker Man

The early May setting is highly significant to the plot of 1973 British horror film The Wicker Man. And for this reason, it was important that the movie captured the natural landscape  of this time of year. This was a little tricky though, since the film was actually shot in October and November. The production team got round it by adding fake blossom to the trees to make it look authentic.

It's a shame they didn't consider this a necessary detail for the dreadful 2006 remake starring Nicolas Cage. That one was also shot out of season - June, July and August - but there's not a flash of May blossom to be seen. In fact you can actually see autumnal-sized fruit on some of the trees.

The Wicker Man is showing tonight - Tuesday 11th September - on ITV 4 at 12.20am
