Dale Winton was hoping Supermarket Sweep would make a return
Dale Winton talked to us in one of his final interviews
Dale Winton enjoyed a massive hit with his game show Supermarket Sweep and in one of his last interviews before his death he revealed to us that there was talk of the show coming back.
The much loved presenter, who died on Wednesday aged 62, was speaking to us about returning to our screens with his new Channel 5 travel show, Dale Winton’s Florida Fly Drive.
Rumours were circulating that Supermarket Sweep, which ran from 1993 to 2001, with a brief revival in 2007, might be coming back.
Dale told us: “Well, the company that made it originally took it to the TV festival in Cannes recently and it created a lot of interest. I loved doing that show so if they wanted to do it again I would.
“Then again, I wouldn’t be surprised if they wanted 22-year-old to present it. I’d be devastated but, you know, that’s what happens. But I’ll always feel passionate about Supermarket Sweep because if it wasn’t for that show I wouldn’t have done anything I’ve done since!”
Meanwhile, the tributes have continued to pour in for Dale. Paddy McGuinness said: "Back in the day Supermarket Sweep was the programme to watch. Dale Winton was the perfect host, he made it all look effortless."
