Danny Dyer fans had a big reaction to his unexpected presenting debut on Have I Got News For You

We now know Danny Dyer as hard-man Mick Carter over on EastEnders.

But it looks like he could be set for a whole new career after his appearance on Have I Got News For You yesterday.

Stepping in for one evening only, the TV star impressed viewers with his hilarious one liners next to regulars Paul Merton and Ian Hislop and panellists Sara Pascoe and Judy Murray.

Fans loved him so much, they're even begging for the 41-year-old to take a spot on the BBC2 programme full time.

"Danny Dyer was brilliant on @haveigotnews last night. Genius booking as host," said one.

"Mr #DannyDyer was superb tonight on #HIGNFY a cracking episode pulled along beautifully by his comic asides. Smashing stuff!" wrote another.

While a third mused: "Thought Danny Dyer was really funny hosting the show tonight. He had a good laugh at his own expense but also respected the show enough not to make the show all about himself. Would love to see him host again :)"

And there was plenty more where that came from...

This isn't the first time Danny has spread his wings from the Queen Vic, as the star recently featured on a Gogglebox charity special.

The actor and his daughter Dani - who won Love Island this year - shared the sofa as part of Channel 4’s Stand Up To Cancer campaign.

Explaining his reasons behind joining the show, Danny said: “Dani and I had such a laugh filming Gogglebox and hope we can raise bucket loads of money for Stand Up To Cancer as it’s such a wonderful cause

"Cancer is affecting too many of us and we need to pull together and put a stop to it.”

Dani, 21, added:  “I absolutely love Gogglebox and couldn’t be more excited to be on it with my dad. I’m just hoping we don’t have to watch any of the antiques programmes he’s always watching… but I guess as it’s for Stand Up To Cancer, which is such an amazing cause, I can let it slide!”
