Danny O'Donoghue has revealed he left The Voice because he was frustrated the show was not focused on music enough.
The Script frontman stepped down as a coach on the BBC talent show after two series last year and has been replaced by Kaiser Chiefs singer Ricky Wilson.
Danny - who mentored 2013 winner Andrea Begley on the show - told The Sun he thought The Voice was too entertainment focused.
Danny said: "The BBC wanted it to be more entertainment and not too deep.
"They told me to cut out the technical terms. But you have to allow people to be themselves, that's where the friction came from."
Danny also admitted he felt let down by The Voice after its winners - Andrea and Leanne Mitchell - failed to make a dent on the charts.
"That's the difference between a television company running a music show and a record company running a television show," he said. "I was also very disappointed in the aftercare the label [Universal] gave the artists."
The 33-year-old Irish singer also revealed he has been caring for his 67-year-old mother for the past eight months, after she was diagnosed with a brain aneurysm.
Danny said: "She had a brain aneurysm on the base of her skull. I flew straight home and we were told she might not make it through the night. We had weeks and weeks of care and being there for her."
