Sir David Jason has told how he was in tears as he filmed his final scenes in long-running favourite A Touch Of Frost. TV bosses have filmed two alternative endings for his last ever appearance as DI Jack Frost to keep viewers guessing how he will bow out of the role after 18 years. Sir David said of the final scenes, to be screened on ITV1 in April: "You'd have needed a heart of stone not to feel emotional." The actor will be seen in a two-part finale to his role as the TV detective, called If Dogs Run Free. The 70-year-old said: "On the final day of filming there were moments in the script when I had to find tears and let's just say those tears weren't hard to find. "I think everyone on set had the feeling something really special, which had been a big part of all our lives, was finally coming to an end." The star said the time had come to end the series. "We thought we've got to draw a line in the sand somewhere and if it's not this year it will be next. So we took the decision that Frost, unfortunately, would be leaving the force ... and whether he just hangs up his hat or is carried out feet first remains to be seen." Only a handful of TV executives know how Frost's final case will end. Sir David, producer David Reynolds and senior drama executives at ITV will make a final decision about which of the two endings will be screened. The other ending is set to be screened on the ITV website, itv.com, directly after the final episode. The broadcast date is yet to be announced.
