Jodie Whittaker's Time Lord expected to meet the civil rights hero in episode three
The BBC has revealed when the third episode of Doctor Who, thought to centre on civil rights activist Rosa Parks, will be shown.
Jodie Whittaker’s third outing as the Time Lord will be on BBC1 at 6.55pm on Sunday 21st October, which means that Countryfile will be on at the unusually early time of 5.55pm, while the Strictly Come Dancing results show will follow at 7.45pm.
TV Insider reports that Doctor Who boss Chris Chibnall has revealed that the third episode will feature Rosa Parks, who famously refused to give up her seat to a white man on a bus in Alabama in 1955, an act which helped inspire Martin Luther King and the American civil rights movement.
Chris said: “I knew coming in that I wanted to do Rosa Parks as our first historical [storyline].”
It’s been rumoured for months that Jodie’s Doctor would be meeting Rosa on her travels, with one eagle eyed fan earlier this year tweeting that they’d spotted the real bus used by Rosa being apparently used in filming.
Meanwhile, we do know a lot more about this Sunday’s episode of Doctor Who, which sees the gang marooned among the arid sand dunes of a deserted planet, named Desolation.
It sees the Doctor and her pals Graham, Ryan and Yasmin land right in the middle of the Twelve Galaxies Space Rally and they join the last two competitors (guest stars Shaun Dooley and Susan Lynch) as they race for the finish line. The question they must answer is why is the planet deserted?
The second episode also features Art Malik, who was just one of a host of guest stars revealed in last Sunday’s trailer.
Also coming up in the series is former Coronation Street favourite Julie Hesmondhalgh, actor Mark Addy and Not Going Out star Lee Mack.
Doctor Who continues this Sunday at 6.55pm on BBC1.
