EastEnders fans were over the moon to see a very iconic character return last night - though it came with pretty emotional twist.
The legendary Dr Harold Legg came back to Albert Square for a reunion with his old friend Dot Branning and viewers loved seeing the pair catch up.
Dr Legg was the resident GP in Walford for many years, having first appeared on the show back in 1985, and returned to reassure Dot that she’s in good health after she feared she may by dying.
To celebrate this news the pair headed to the Queen Vic for a drink - but sadly Dr Legg (played by Leonard Fenton) then told Dot (June Brown) some very bad news.
“There's something very special about this place, you know,” he said of Albert Square. “I'm glad I got back to see it again, well, to see you again, Dot. I'm the only one here that's unwell. As a matter of fact, I'm dying.”
Despite the sadness of this cliffhanger, viewers were touched by the scenes and loved having Dr Legg back on the Square.
“So heartwarming to see Dr Legg back…,” one fan wrote on Twitter, whilst another said: “Dr. Legg!!! 1 of the best @bbceastenders moments managed in months & months! #eastenders”
“Dr. Legg and Dot on @bbceastenders! What a great idea to get him back on the tele!” a fellow fan posted.
And one added: “That Dot and Dr Legg chat. My heart! #EastEnders”
Others couldn’t hide their sadness at Dr Legg’s bad news though, with one writing: “Nooo Dr Legg can't die”
Dr Legg was last seen on screen back in 2007 after making sporadic appearances during the 2000s and 1990s.
The doctor had been a regular face on Albert Square in the 1980s along with Dot, but now it looks like there is sadness ahead for the old friends.
