Jo Joyner praised for emotional scenes as Tanya returns for Abi’s funeral
The character came back to say her final goodbye
Emotions ran high during Friday night’s episode of EastEnders as the residents of Albert Square gathered to say goodbye to Abi Branning.
Fans rushed to social media to pay their own tributes to Abi, who died after a freak fall from the roof of the Queen Vic, and to praise Jo Joyner for her heartbreaking portrayal of Tanya.
‘I’m glad Tanya got to say goodbye to Abi,’ wrote one. ‘@dollyjoyner had me in tears, it broke my heart seeing Tanya cry. What a great actress, you were phenomenal tonight.’
Another said: ‘Wow @dollyjoyner is actually the best. End of. #EastEnders.’
A third added: ‘Always brill to see @dollyjoyner back on #EastEnders. Amazing actress, so glad she came back for Lorna’s exit.’
The episode also saw Jacqueline Jossa’s last scenes as Abi’s sister Lauren, with the actress later tweeting: ‘I will miss you Lauren Branning.’

She also shared an image of Abi and Lauren on Instagram, adding: ‘Goodbye to the Branning sisters.’
