Classic 70s show Fawlty Towers is the most iconic TV comedy of all time, according to a new poll. The show - starring John Cleese as hapless Torquay hotel owner Basil Fawlty, scored 30 per cent of the votes in the survey, conducted by MSN Entertainment. Period sitcom Blackadder finished second with 26 per cent of the votes, followed by Only Fools and Horses with 16 per cent. Basil Fawlty was also voted the top male TV character with 42 per cent of the votes, ahead of Only Fools' beloved Del Boy, played by actor David Jason. However Del Boy and his brother Rodney were voted Most Iconic Duo by those taking part in the poll, beating The Two Ronnies and Basil and Sybil Fawlty. Most popular female character was Dawn French's Vicar Of Dibley creation Geraldine Granger. The survey was conducted to celebrate the Bafta TV awards, which take place on Sunday. "We wanted to give voters a chance to celebrate the cream of TV," said MSN Entertainment spokesman Mike Lok.
