Gallagher teams up with Blur rivals
Noel Gallagher has asked long-time Blur rivals Damon Albarn and Graham Coxon to perform at a charity gig to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust. The former Oasis star, who famously feuded with the band during the Britpop years, said he had asked Blur to play but was told they had been put "to bed". Announcing the line-up for next March's charity gigs, which also features Primal Scream, Kasabian, Ryan Adams and Rizzle Kicks on the bill, Noel said: "I was on tour with Graham and asked him if Blur would do it but he said they'd kind of put Blur to bed. "They decided that just the two of them could do it. It's going to be great. And 10 years ago, who would have thought it." The singer, who now performs as solo project, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, even admitted he liked playing Blur's Tender at home. Labrinth and Beth Orton will also play, and comedians Russell Brand and Noel Fielding will perform stand up at the Royal Albert Hall gigs. Noel, who has taken over as the main curator of the shows from The Who frontman Roger Daltrey after 11 years, promised to keep the fans happy by playing Oasis songs. Asked if he would perform with Oasis if he was asked to organise the project in 2014, Noel said: "Let's wait to be asked first." Noel said he was "happy to help" with the charity gigs. But he said organising them "brought out a side of me I don't really like, which is asking people for favours ... I've never asked anybody for a favour in my life." He said he wanted to get involved as he knew many people who had been touched by cancer. He added: "Teenage Cancer Trust do a brilliant job and I've always been more than pleased to lend my support over the years." The annual event has raised more than £15 million for Teenage Cancer Trust since it started in 2000.
