If it weren’t enough that General Hospital’s Ava (Maura West) and John Cates (Adam J. Harrington) are partnering to takedown Sonny (Maurice Benard), it looks like things between the duo may soon take a romantic turn.
To briefly recap recent events, Sonny kicked Ava out of his penthouse after finding out she played a hand in getting Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) disbarred. Not only did he kick Ava out, but he also declared he wanted full custody of Avery (Ava & Grace Scarola). That of course prompted a visceral reaction from Ava who leaked the now infamous audio recording of Natalia (Eva LaRue) to get back at Sonny.
Leaking the audio turned out to be an ill-advised move on Ava’s part as Scott (Kin Shriner) told her the action wouldn’t bode well for her in a custody dispute with Sonny. In fact, Scott shared that short of Sonny having a complete meltdown in public, Sonny would likely gain custody of their daughter.
With that news, Ava located Sonny’s pharmacist and demanded he switch Sonny’s bipolar medication with placebos in an effort to push Sonny over the edge. She also managed to garner the sympathy of John, who is willing to help her ensure she gets custody of Avery if she helps him put Sonny behind bars. Ava has been slow to share any incriminating information, but it seems like it's only a matter of time.
With all of that being said, we can’t help but see disaster in the pair’s future. John is bound to let his Sonny infatuation get out of hand, and it’s only a matter of time before the right person discovers what Ava did with Sonny’s medicine and tells the kingpin. That latter act of betrayal could land Ava in the middle of her own whodunit murder mystery.
Making Ava and John’s partnership appear even more doomed is their possible new romance. That’s right, looking at the preview clip for the episodes airing during the week of July 22, it appears that Ava and John find themselves in a close moment ready to kiss. Take a look at the video below.
Should a romance kick off between the two, it probably won’t end well. For starters, Ava is a master manipulator and she tends to lie. With John being an FBI agent who "tries" to be a boy scout of sorts as an FBI agent, he’s likely not to be a fan of her loose relationship with the truth.
Plus, considering she’s the reason Sonny isn’t on his medication, if John is able to build a case against his longtime rival, Ava’s heinous act may be what unravels it and prompts Sonny to go free. If such a case falls apart, John is likely to lose his job with the FBI since his bosses seem pretty fed up after the Pikeman investigation failures.
We’ll just have to pay close attention this week on General Hospital, as a possible #Java pairing is still developing news.
