Although the head of Pikeman, Valentin (James Patrick Stuart), is out of the picture on General Hospital, Sonny (Maurice Benard) is still in grave danger. Not only is John Cates (Adam J. Harrington) likely to turn his attention to the kingpin with Valentin gone, hoping to build an FBI case against Sonny that finally lands him behind bars, but Sonny is also dealing with a mental health struggle and he doesn’t even know it.

As viewers have seen, first Valentin tampered with Sonny’s dosage of bipolar medication in an effort to get Sonny to unravel so Pikeman could swoop in and take over Corinthos' territory. Now Ava (Maura West) has had his medication completely replaced with placebos, hoping Sonny goes off the deep end before their custody hearing and she gets awarded full custody of Avery (Ava & Grace Scarola).

What makes Sonny’s situation particularly dire is that he’s managed to turn on nearly everyone that he’s relied on in the past to protect him, mainly Carly (Laura Wright), Jason (Steve Burton) and even Michael (Chad Duell). But for the sake of this piece, let’s focus on Carly and Jason.

In the General Hospital episodes airing during the week of July 15, John makes it clear that he wants Jason’s help to take Sonny down. Jason would never go for that,  but with John still holding the infamous audio recording of Carly over Jason’s head, Jason has to be very careful how he helps both his friends. As Jason expresses in the episode airing on July 19, he has to get Sonny to let him back in.

Jason likely knows the only way he can protect everyone involved is to bury the hatchet with Sonny, and the two men formulate a plan to get rid of John Cates that doesn’t involve murder. Perhaps the duo could intentionally feed John wrong information that results in John looking foolish as lead investigator, or they work to discredit John in some other way.

Back with Carly. Out of everyone in Sonny’s life, she has the most experience with helping Sonny through his lowest of lows when it comes to his bipolar disorder. While she questioned if he stopped taking his medicine due to his erratic behavior, and he responded that he hadn’t, she clearly still believes something is off. Considering we predicted a while ago that Carly would be the one to put the pieces together that his medication was tampered with and fly in to play his hero, we think now is the perfect time for all that to happen.

Carly could sneakily have Sonny’s medicine tested and discover he’s been taking placebos. Although she may not trace this back to the original source of chaos Valentin, she could speak to the vile pharmacist and discover Ava is behind Sonny’s latest sabotage. Once Carly is able to solve this mystery, it could finally launch the character reset that Sonny fans have been begging for, and spell a tragic end for Ava.

Not only that, but Jason, Sonny and Carly reuniting to fend off enemies would be an ode to classic General Hospital. Plus, could Carly saving Sonny lead to the super couple rekindling things? Yes, Jason and Carly confessed to loving each other and even got married at one time, but we tend to believe they’re better off as besties than lovers.

New episodes of General Hospital air on weekdays on ABC. If you miss an episode, you can catch up on Hulu.
