Love it or hate it, General Hospital’s Ava (Maura West) is back in rare form. After being rejected by Sonny (Maurice Benard), with him declaring he’s going to gain sole custody of their daughter Avery (Ava & Grace Scarola), Ava has resorted to the manipulative ways fans came to know her by. During the week of July 8 on General Hospital, not only did Ava coerce Sonny’s pharmacist into replacing Sonny’s bipolar medication with placebos, but she also attempted to enlist John Cates’ (Adam J. Harrington) help as she heads into a custody battle.

Of course, Ava didn’t start there, as before any of that she made sure an audio recording of Natalia (Eva LaRue) saying disparaging remarks about the LGBTQIA community as it pertains to Alison (Jacqueline Grace Lopez) and Kristina (Kate Mansi) was leaked to the press. Now that had less to do with her custody fight and more to do with her lashing out at Sonny and his new love interest, but it was Ava being Ava nonetheless. And because of her actions, Alison, Kristina and Deception have been left to figure out what to do next.

In the General Hospital episode that aired on July 11, Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton) talks with both Alison and Kristina about doing an interview to showcase the fact that they're in love in an effort to combat the bad press Deception has been receiving due to Natalia’s words. Alison and Kristina agreed to do it, but we’re nervous things won’t go as planned. Namely because of Ava.

As previously mentioned, Ava is in a custody battle and had Sonny’s medication switched. Scott (Kin Shriner) recently shared with Ava that sans Sonny erupting in public and causing a scene, she’d likely lose Avery. With Sonny off of his meds, it will become harder for him to contain his temper, meaning Ava’s been searching for wakes to provoke him to react erratically. A sabotaged interview could present that opportunity.

We can imagine a scenario in which Ava bribes the interviewer to make a pivot during the interview with Alison and Kristina, and raise Sonny as a topic of conversation. It would be a rather seamless transition as Kristina is Sonny’s daughter, and the interview could ask questions about Sonny’s criminal past. Pushing the envelope even further, the interviewer could bring up all the people in Sonny’s orbit who have died due to alleged underworld activity. The latter point would serve as a glaring reminder for the public and the potential judge presiding over the custody hearing that Sonny’s environment may not be "suitable" for children.

Now if a hypothetical like this were to play out, Alison, Kristina and Brooklyn would be furious, but their anger would likely pale in comparison to Sonny’s. It could send him flying into a rage that causes him to do something quite explosive, crushing his hopes for full custody. If he blames Ava and if he finds out that Ava has been toying with his bipolar medication to boot, she’ll be in grave danger.

Let’s say Ava does nothing involving the interview. Should that be the case, Ava fans should still be worried because her latest antics coupled with what she did to Morgan (Bryan Craig) and Connie (Megan Ward). It all makes us wonder if she won’t soon find herself in the middle of a whodunit murder mystery as the victim. Sonny may be her biggest rival right now, but he's hardly her only one.

New episodes of General Hospital air on weekdays on ABC. If you miss an episode, you can catch up on Hulu.
