Gladiators ready: The line-up is revealed
The 12 new Gladiators appearing in the revamp of the popular nineties TV series have been unveiled. The Gladiators include a bodybuilder, an American footballer, a Royal Marines Commando and an Olympic medal-winning runner and Sky One says they will be 'bigger, badder and better than ever before'. In-keeping with the original series they have all been given intimidating names such as Battleaxe, Destroyer, Inferno, and Predator. At its peak, the original Gladiators show, broadcast from 1992 to 2000, drew audiences of 14 million to its Saturday evening ITV slot. Presenters Ian Wright and Kirsty Gallacher are the new John Fashanu and Ulrika Jonsson, while original referee John Anderson returns. Producers have whittled down 20,000 hopefuls to 32 contenders set to take on the Gladiators in events like Duel, Powerball, Hang Tough and The Eliminator for the £50,000 prize.
