Green Wing star Tamsin Greig has been named best actress at the Laurence Olivier Awards, while The Sound of Music was ignored. Tamsin, 39, won for her role as Beatrice in the Royal Shakespeare Company production of Much Ado About Nothing. She's best known for her TV comedy roles in C4 series Green Wing and Black Books. But her performance as Beatrice at London's Novello Theatre had the critics raving. Greig beat Eve Best (A Moon for the Misbegotten), Sinead Cusack (Rock'N'Roll) and Kathleen Turner (Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?) to the best actress prize. Rufus Sewell won best actor for his starring role in Tom Stoppard's Rock'N'Roll. A revival of Stephen Sondheim's Sunday In The Park With George was named outstanding musical production of 2006 - beating The Sound of Music, Cabaret and Evita. It was the only nomination for The Sound of Music. Andrew Lloyd Webber's West End hit, starring TV talent show winner Connie Fisher, was snubbed in every other category. Actors Richard Wilson and Sue Johnston hosted the ceremony at the Grosvenor House on London's Park Lane. The awards are voted by The Society of London Theatre.
