The award-winning Channel 4 soap will be celebrating a quarter century on air next year.
Hollyoaks boss Bryan Kirkwood has teased what's in store for the show's 25th anniversary next year.
In October 2020, the award-winning soap will be celebrating a quarter decade on TV, but executive producer Bryan said the team want to return to the themes that formed the show 25 years ago.
"Nick Pickard is right at the centre of that – as he should be, as Tony Hutchinson is our original character from episode one. We're looking at the themes that brought people to Hollyoaks 25 years ago. It was introduced as a very young and youthful soap, so that ingredient is really high in the mix for the next year," he told Digital Spy.
"I'm really confident in saying that we have a very original, ambitious story coming up for the teens and the families. Hopefully that will engage all of our viewers."
He continued, "We're already talking about our stunt for the 25th anniversary week, which has got us excited too."
Bryan added that Joe McGann, who recently landed the role of Tony Hutchinson's estranged father, Edward, will also be playing a central role in the anniversary plans.
Villain Edward couldn't be any more different Hollyoaks’ longest-serving character Tony.
“After 25 years we finally find out where Tony’s dad has come from. It’s a blessing to be stepping into such a good team with good characters," Joe recently said of the role.
While Nick shared, “Yesterday I had the pleasure of meeting Joe who is coming in to play my dad. What better way to celebrate our anniversary in October 2020 than by getting to know some more of Tony’s family? I have to warn you, though, Edward is definitely here to ruffle some feathers! Here’s to the next 25 years!”
Hollyoaks was recently crowned Best Soap at the British Soap Awards.
