House Of Cards: Is the Underwoods' marriage in crisis?
House Of Cards showrunner Beau Willimon has revealed the new series could see Frank and Claire Underwood’s relationship put under strain.
The hit Netflix series has charted the rise of the scheming power couple, played by Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright, with season three seeing them finally installed in the White House as President of the United States and First Lady.
Beau said: “We’ve seen them share a common goal, but we’ve also seen conflict in pursuit of that goal. Now that they’re in the White House, how are those ambitions going to play out? We’ll see.

“I will say that the marriage between Frank and Claire has been the core of House Of Cards, that more than the politics of DC is the story that we’re telling.
“So it’s only natural that now they’ve achieved their goal what does than mean for their marriage?”

House Of Cards is an adaptation of the BBC’s mini-series of the same name, based on the novel by Michael Dobbs which charted crooked politician Francis Urquhart’s mission to become Prime Minister, supported by his loving wife.

But Beau said it was important when rewriting the show for the 21st century to make Claire her husband’s equal.
The writer said: “It’s important that Claire is a strong character regardless of her gender. We have a duo here, we have two stars, we are seeing them both rise to the top.
“I think when it comes to the way we wanted Claire to participate in the story, from the get go we wanted her to be equal to her husband, because we knew that that would result in the most dramatic complexity of tension, which I think we’ve delivered on. And hopefully we’ll continue to deliver on in Season Three.”
All 13 episodes of the third season of House Of Cards are available on Netflix now.
