Based on Anders de la Motte's novel of the same name, End of Summer — like so many others in the Nordic Noir genre — starts off with an unexplained disappearance. This one takes place in 1984 and is of five-year-old Billy.

Flash forward two decades and his sister Vera (Julia Ragnarsson) still hasn't quite come to terms with the tragedy that ripped a hole in their family. Now a bereavement counsellor, the trauma comes flooding back when a client describes their experience of a spookily similar sounding child disappearance, thus setting Vera on a course to discover what really happened to Billy all those years ago.
