A week is a long time in television and, seven days after emphatically ruling out the possibility of a second series of hit thriller The Night Manager, star Hugh Laurie now says it's a possibility.
He reportedly told The Mirror: "There is a glimmer of a possibility, I can’t say more than that. It’s actually not my place to say it because I wouldn’t be the one to write it, or construct it, and I don’t even know what story, and who would be involved in constructing that story, but I hear rumblings."
The Night Manager was a six-part espionage drama about an ex soldier, Jonathan Pine (Tom Hiddleston), who seeks vengeance for the murder of his Egyptian lover and is persuaded into infiltrating the world of an arms dealer, Richard Roper (Laurie), who's on the verge of a massive illegal sale of armaments to Middle Eastern buyers.
It was co-produced by the BBC and US network AMC and a second series could be dependant on how it performed in the States. It drew average audiences of more than six million to BBC1 and it premieres in the US tomorrow (April 19).
Hugh said: "AMC very much have their fingers crossed for how this goes... They’ll obviously be curious to how this goes over with an American audience."
