James Nesbitt goes to the dark side
Former Cold Feet and Murphy's Law star James Nesbitt has taken a very dark turn in his latest role - as a modern day Jekyll. He plays Tom Jackman in the six-part BBC1 series, which is due to be broadcast in June. It's the story of the new Dr Jekyll in 2006 who has struck a deal to share the body of Tom with Hyde. The twist? Hyde doesn't know Jekyll is married. There's a wife, played by Coupling's Gina Bellman, and two children who Jekyll will do anything to protect from his dark side. But what neither Jekyll or Hyde knows is there is an ancient organisation, with limitless wealth and power, which is monitoring their every move, and a plan over a century in the making is coming to its conclusion. James said: "Jekyll is modern, contemporary and cutting-edge - I am excited about exploring the comedy and darkness in both characters." The all-star cast also includes Denis Lawson, Michelle Ryan, Meera Syal and Mark Gatiss. Writer Steven Moffat has taken a modern twist on the classic tale of scientific misadventure which he describes as 'somewhere between a modern horror story and The Odd Couple'.
