James Nesbitt to play soldier in BBC Iraq drama
James Nesbitt is to star in a drama that tells the story of three British soldiers in Iraq. BBC One's Occupation spans the five years following the invasion of the country in 2003. Speaking to the BBC on location in Marrakech, James said: "We can't really relate to the notion of war, but we can relate to stories that happen within war - hopefully it will make war accessible in a way that other things can't." The actor, who stars alongside Stephen Graham and Warren Brown, continued: "It's not necessarily a political piece, it's a human story about three soldiers." The Cold Feet actor said he thoroughly researched the role, speaking to soldiers about their experiences in Iraq. He said: "From the soldiers I have met, their fear is that they will be forgotten, that the situation has been going on for so long and the news is always the same in a way." Occupation is coming to BBC One in June.
