Jason Isaacs to play captain in the new Star Trek: Discovery series
Hollywood actor and Harry Potter star, Jason, will be in the captain's chair for the new series
Harry Potter actor Jason Isaacs is set to follow Brit Sir Patrick Stewart into the captain's chair after being cast in the new Star Trek series.
The 53-year-old, will play Captain Lorca in the forthcoming drama, StarTrek:Discovery, when it launches with a 13-episdoe run this summer on CBS All Access.
He will be joined by The Walking Dead's, Sonequa Martin-Green, who will play Lieutenant Commander Rainsford in the show that will be set ten years before the events of the original 1966 Star Trek which catapulted William Shatner and his co-star Leonard Nimoy to fame.
It will be the Star Trek franchise's first offering in 12-years after the spin-off show, Star Trek:Enterprise, failed to set the world alight in 2005.
"It's important to get it right', said CBS Chairman Les Moonves. "Star Trek is the family jewels. We're not going to rush it in. There's a lot of post-production. But I'm very confident based on what I've seen so far."
Jason, best known for playing evil Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter series won't be the centre of attention as previous captains have been. Instead it will be Lieutenant Commander Rainsford (Sonequa Martin-Green) who will be at the helm. Creator Brian Fuller said, "We've seen six series from the captain's point of view", explaining it was time to see a character from a different perspective on the starship.

The series was originally set to premier on CBS All Access this January but was pushed back to summer because of the extensive post-production it requires. Other stars to feature in the cast include True Blood and The Tudors star James Frain as Sarek, and former Bond girl Michelle Yeoh as captain Georgiu.
