Absolutely fabulous Have I Got News For You news just in – comedian Jennifer Saunders is hosting the first episode of the new nine-part series.

The long-running political satire, which first screened in 1990, begins filming its 47th series this week. Ian Hislop and Paul Merton return as team captains, flanked each week by diverse guest stars and guided by guest hosts, who in the past have included Jo Brand, Boris Johnson, Mark Steel, Maureen Lipman, Bruce Forsyth, Germaine Greer, Ronnie Corbett, Clive Anderson and Miranda Hart.

Absolutely Fabulous and Blandings star Jennifer appeared as a guest panellist last year for the first time, and is looking forward to her first spin in the hosting chair: "It’s thrilling to have worked up the courage to take on Have I Got News For You, and I shall pitch myself somewhere safely between Kirsty Young and Kathy Burke!"

Jennifer’s episode will screen on BBC1 on Friday, April 4 at 9pm
