Jodie Comer hinted about what's to come when BBC drama Doctor Foster returns later this year...

Jodie Comer has revealed that she's looking forward to viewers finding out more about 'other woman' Kate when Doctor Foster returns.

Shown on BBC1 last year, the drama told the story of local GP Gemma Foster (Scott & Bailey's Suranne Jones), whose world unravelled when she discovered her husband Simon (Coalition's Bertie Carvel) was having an affair with their mutual friends' 21-year-old daughter Kate, played by Jodie.

The drama had the nation hooked, especially the scene featuring arguably the worst dinner party ever, where Gemma finally confronted Simon and Kate about their affair – and Kate responded by slapping Gemma really hard.

Talking to What’s on TV at the Royal Television Society Awards 2017, actress Jodie said: "Me and Suranne got on very well considering our characters hated each other. I think we were all a bit overwhelmed with how the show got such a big reaction from the general public, so to be part of something so big was really exciting."

Jodie's looking forward to viewers finding out more about Kate in series two, which picks up two years on from the events of last series.

"The thing I’m most excited about is that I feel the audience will get to see more from Kate's perspective," said Jodie. "I feel like she was judged a lot, which is very fair, but I just feel that this season may give a different side to her, which I think is nice."

She added: "We saw a lot from Simon's perspective and not so much Kate's, so I think it'll be fun for the audience to see who she is."

Jodie had been recognised at the RTS Awards with a best actress nomination for her role in BBC Three thriller Thirteen, in which she played tormented Ivy Moxam, a 26-year-old woman trying to piece her life back together after escaping from a cellar where she'd been held captive for 13 years.

Jodie admitted she loved playing the dishevelled Ivy. "It was so refreshing," she said. "I kinda love that I got to go into filming and have no make-up on," she said. "As soon as I have make-up on, I get very aware of how I look. So to be able to have really baggy clothes and messy hair, it was lovely."

She added: "You don't get a lot of characters like that, they don't come along very often, so to have the opportunity to play her was amazing."

Doctor Foster returns to BBC1 later this year.
