John Thomson lands Coronation St role
Former Cold Feet actor John Thomson has landed his dream job in Coronation Street. John, who made his name as Pete Gifford in the 30-something drama, will play struggling children's actor Jessie in three episodes to be filmed later this month, according to reports in The Daily Mirror. Bosses at the ITV1 soap hope that if the character is a success he will return for more next year. A source said: "It's a fantastic coup to get John board. We're hoping he'll get the place buzzing and the role he plays will be hilarious, so we are sure the viewers will love him." "It is already being talked about getting him back for a much longer period next year." John, who has a history of drinks and drugs problems, has cleaned up his act after a stint in rehab six years ago. A pal said: "He's a reformed character. He still likes a drink but it's nothing like the old days. He says the Corrie role is a really funny part. He'll do a great job." John's scenes will be shown in December.
