Julie Walters is living a real-life Archers plot
Unlikely farmer Julie Walters has compared her rural home life with the plot lines of radio favourite The Archers. The actress lives on an organic livestock farm in West Sussex with husband Grant Roffey. She told Good Housekeeping magazine: "I love the wildlife, the quiet and the privacy, the owls at night and the fact that there's no light pollution. I love the way the moonlight illuminates the garden and the fact you don't need a torch when it's out. I love the smell of the earth and the animals." She continued: "Farming is seven days a week, 365 days a year. We talk about the farm non-stop and wonder if The Archers have got a mole at our place because our little dramas always seem to end up in their storylines. "Grant and I lead separate lives when I'm away filming, but it seems to suit us. It wouldn't suit everybody. Like most couples, we have hidden bonds and often you don't know what it is that makes your relationship work. Analysing it is tempting fate a bit." The 58-year-old actress, most recently seen in BBC Two's Filth: The Mary Whitehouse Story, also discussed her starring role in the film of the hit musical Mamma Mia! "I sprained my ankle at the end of Dancing Queen. "It was all strapped up, but I still had to perform the big finale, which started with me skipping through an olive grove. "I was supposed to wear huge platform shoes. I did it without the platforms, but my co-star Stellan Skarsgard is over 6ft tall and I'm only 5ft three-and-a-half. He was towering above me and I ended up doing most of the scene staring at his b*******!" The July issue of Good Housekeeping is out Thursday.
