Killing Eve - Jodie Comer

Villanelle (Jodie Comer)

The first series of the British-made drama for BBC America, based on Luke Jennings’ Codename Villanelle novellas, made its debut on BBC1, and as a box set on BBC iPlayer, last September.

"It’s a genre-busting series that’s had viewers hooked and craving more," says Charlotte Moore, Director of BBC Content. "We’re really excited to have it back..."

Although the Beeb has yet to officially confirm when the second series will be on, we do know it will arrive on BBC America in April, so it's likely to be the same month here.

And a new trailer for the second series has just landed! We love the scene where a mystery man asks Villanelle why she has a knife? Her chilling reply... “To STAB you with!”

What’s on telly tonight? Our pick of the best shows on Saturday 3rd November including final episode of Killing Eve

They're back!

Doctor Foster star Jodie returns as ruthless but strangely likeable Villanelle, with Sandra Oh (Grey’s Anatomy) reprising her role as her nemesis, security operative Eve Polastri. Their cat-and-mouse game will again be at the heart of the new series but can Jodie give us any more clues? "I don’t think I can," she laughs. "The show picks up from where the first season left off, but other than that…"

And this very intriguing character also returns…

Killing Eve

Fiona Shaw was brilliant as Carolyn Martens in series one, now she's back for the second run

Fiona Shaw is also back as Carolyn Martens, head of the Russian section of MI6. Meanwhile, there’s no official confirmation yet, but fans are hoping Kim Bodnia will return as Villanelle’s ex-handler Konstantin.

Last Tango in Halifax’s Nina Sosanya and A Discovery Of Witches’ Edward Bluemel join the cast, but their roles are under wraps for now. The Mighty Boosh star Julian Barratt has landed a guest role.

There’s a Call the Midwife connection!

Emerald Fennell

Call the Midwife star Emerald Fennell is penning Killing Eve Series Two

Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag) adapted the first series of Killing Eve and returns for series two in an executive producer role, with Call the Midwife star Emerald Fennell taking over as lead writer. Jodie admits the change did unsettle her at first.

"It initially worried me, because Phoebe is so unique and her voice is so distinctive," she says. "You think, 'Oh God – is anyone else going to be able to take the reins?'

"And you have Emerald, who is so brilliant and also a very close friend of Phoebe, so they have a very similar sense of humour, and Emerald really understands the characters and the tone of the show. I’ve been really excited by the script and where the characters go."

Expect more fabulous frocks and locations...

The new series has been filmed in locations across Europe, including Paris, London and Amsterdam.

As for Villanelle’s amazing outfits, including that amazing pink dress, it’s been revealed that costume designer Phoebe de Gaye hasn't returned for series two.

She told Metro.co.uk: “I’m not involved with series two, I took another job last year which would have clashed with it and now I’m doing something else. Charlotte Mitchell is the new designer and I’m sure she’ll do a fantastic job.”
