Les Dennis has revealed he is hoping to make a return to television with a regular role in a TV drama.
The former Family Fortunes host, who turns 60 next month, has a role in the forthcoming Midsomer Murders Christmas special and wants to do more acting
Les told the Daily Mirror: "A regular part in a TV drama would be ideal, but I wouldn't turn a game show down either.
"The great thing about a career in this business is you never know what will happen.
"Look at Bruce Forsyth. He had some time in the wilderness, then he did Have I Got News For You and he was back with a vengeance. Just one TV appearance can make a difference. Or look at Nick Lyndhurst, who has just got into New Tricks. It's great to see people you trust and believe in back on the box.
"People seem to like you to go away then make a comeback. But the trouble is you're either offered stuff on TV or you're not.
"Theatre is what I've been pursuing, because I wanted to. Shakespeare is still the one thing I haven't conquered yet. I'd like to play the Fool in King Lear or Feste in Twelfth Night."
The TV presenter, who recently reached the final on Celebrity MasterChef, had a very public breakdown in 2002 on Celebrity Big Brother, following the break-up of his marriage to Amanda Holden. He then went on to parody his breakdown in Ricky Gervais' comedy Extras, showcasing his acting skills, and insists he has no regrets.
He said: "It's part of my history. I'm the sum of the parts of everything that has happened to me.
"People use this as a cliche, but it's true - what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. That's my philosophy. I have very few regrets. Big Brother may have seemed like a mistake, but it got me Extras with Ricky Gervais."
