Lily Allen lands her own TV show
Pop singer Lily Allen has got plenty to smile about after landing her own chat show. Lily Allen And Friends will be broadcast on BBC Three next spring and will feature a mix of chat and music. Her fans will be at the heart of the programme. The 22-year-old, whose debut single Smile shot straight to the top of the UK singles chart, found fame after building up her fanbase on MySpace. The new show will be based on a similar social networking format. Viewers will be invited to become Lily's virtual friends online and will then have a chance to shape the show - suggesting ideas, choosing bands to perform and putting questions to guests. Each week some fans will be chosen to make up the studio audience. Lily said: "I'm so excited that BBC Three are giving me this chance. It's something I intend to have lots of fun with and I have some great ideas for the show. Next year is going to be a brilliant year." BBC bosses believe the chart-topper has what it takes to be a major TV star. "Lily is opinionated, funny and charming in equal measure. She's a very natural performer and will be a television star. "I'm delighted that she's going to be one of the BBC's key entertainment faces," said Elaine Bedell, head of entertainment commissioning. And BBC Three controller Danny Cohen said: "She's one of the hottest acts around and an important voice of her generation. "Lily Allen And Friends will have its own unique identity as the audience will be intrinsic to the show's content via social networking. "Lily launched herself on the web and is the perfect host for this exciting new show."
