Lorraine Kelly: 'Use the High Street, or lose it'
TV Times magazine talks to Lorraine Kelly about being the new presenter of Daybreak and her show's High Street Fashion Awards... What are your favourite places to shop on the High Street? “I have a lot of favourites. I love M&S for their underwear, some of which is very sexy. And they have good basics, as well as some surprising fashion-forward pieces, so it is always worth a look. I also like Karen Millen for special occasions and I get a lot of outfits from Monsoon, Next and Warehouse.” Do you really enjoy shopping? “I must admit I really don't like shopping for clothes for myself, but I love shopping for my daughter, Rosie, and I really enjoy buying baby clothes when one of my friends or one of the girls at work has a newborn. Baby Gap is a big favourite of mine.” You’ve said that we all need to be championing our local High Street. Why is that important? “The High Street is not only a brilliant place to shop, but it also generated an enormous amount of money for the economy and creates thousands of jobs. We need to use it or lose it, and it is important that we support our local smaller shops as well as the big brands.” What do you think is so special about the British High Street? “I think the way High Street fashion stores can pay homage to a designer look at a fraction of the price is incredible. Fashion is affordable even in these tough times and there's always a bargain to be had!” One of the categories in the awards is Best Shoes. Are you a big shoe collector? “I like quirky shoes and have a collection from Betsey Johnson, which I've had for years and will last me for ages. I also love Office and Dune – you can really jazz up an outfit with a pair of cheeky shoes.” It’s recently been announced that you’ll present Daybreak’s main show alongside Aled Jones. Are you looking forward to it? “I am, yes. I’ve known Aled for a long time. When we did a screen test together, something just clicked. He is a lovely, funny, positive man with a brilliant sense of humour.”
