US series MacGyver has become the latest programme to be pulled out of the television vaults for a reboot.
Originally broadcast on the ABC network from 1985 to 1992, the new CBS version is to be directed by James Wan, of Saw and Fast & Furious 7 fame.
Unlike the previous incarnation, this one will focus on a 20-something MacGyver.

However, continuity will continue in the form of Henry 'The Fonz' Winkler, who produced the original series and is on board for the recreation.
Angus MacGyver, made famous by Richard Dean Anderson, is a secret agent who refuses to carry a gun.
Instead, he draws on his practical knowledge to make use of anything around him to create whatever is needed to get out of a particular jam.

Now that MacGyver will once again be seen on the small screen, here are five more 1980s favourites we want back.
1. The A-Team

Yes, that is Culture Club frontman Boy George alongside A-Team stars Dirk Benedict (as Faceman), Mr T (BA Baracus) and George Peppard (John “Hannibal” Smith). The Voice star featured in a 1986 episode of the popular series which also starred Dwight Schultz as “Howling Mad” Murdock.

Imagine Family Ties remade today with Alex flying the flag for the likes of Sarah Palin and Donald Trump...
3. Quantum Leap

A huge favourite on both sides of the Atlantic, Scott Bakula became a star as the time-travelling Doctor Sam Beckett, righting history’s wrongs in the hope he will eventually make the leap back home one day.
Assisting him on his missions was holographic guide Al played by Dean Stockwell.

A neat twist on the Doctor Who format, Quantum Leap’s combination of humour and drama must make it an obvious candidate for a reboot.
4. Murder, She Wrote

Dame Angela Lansbury had toiled away in Hollywood for 40 years before Murder, She Wrote made her a global star.
The show, about sleuthing mystery writer Jessica Fletcher, ran for 12 series from 1984 to 1996.
Like Columbo, ITV seems to have it on a permanent loop.

Although a proposed reboot would have seen Oscar winner Octavia Spencer starring as a hospital administrator who self-publishes a mystery novel, broadcaster NBC decided to scrap the project.
However, it is entirely possible another network may pick it up.
5. The Golden Girls

This Emmy award-winning comedy starred Bea Arthur as straight-talking Dorothy Zbornak, Rue McClanahan as flirty Southern belle Blanche Deveraux, Betty White as daffy Rose Nylund and Estelle Getty as the often rude Sophia Petrillo.
Golden Girls was a landmark series depicting the lives and loves of four senior citizens sharing a home in Florida.
