Mel and Sue promise tasty treats on their new show

Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins have promised that the audience on their new chat show will not go hungry – with great food being cooked for them live on screen.

It is 15 years since the pair’s chat show Late Lunch came to an end, but they are returning with new series Mel & Sue, which will screen on weekdays on ITV at 4pm.

Mel revealed: “We’ll have a cook who won’t be a celebrity chef. It will be a different person every day. It could be your Uncle Stanley doing corned beef fritters. It won’t just be high-end stuff; it won’t be upmarket chefs preparing a coulis of shiitake mushrooms. We guarantee good snackage.”

Sue added: “We will throw the audience Twiglets.”

The comedy duo and Great British Bake Off hosts joked they are dubbing the show their 'Farewell Tour' in case it is a flop.

Sue said: “I’ve started calling it the ‘Farewell Tour’ in case it fails. I’ll say, ‘Mel and I will always love each other, but it’s goodbye.’ But if it works, we’ll rebrand it and say, ‘Well, hello again’.

“It’s like the Rolling Stones – every tour is a farewell tour.”

Mel added: “Everyone is really nice if they think it’s a farewell tour. They give you the benefit of the doubt.”

Mel & Sue premieres on ITV today (January 12).
