Michael Douglas' actress mum Diana dies
Diana Douglas Webster, the mother of actor Michael Douglas and former wife of Spartacus star Kirk, has died at her retirement home in Los Angeles at the age of 92.
Although not as well known as her son and ex-husband, Diana appeared in a number of films, including the 1987 comedy Planes, Trains & Automobiles, alongside Steve Martin and John Candy, and dozens of TV shows, The Waltons, The West Wing, Dynasty and Cagney & Lacey. Her last role was in the hit medical drama ER.
She met Kirk while studying at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York, and they married in 1943. They went on to have two sons, Michael and Joel, but divorced in 1951. However, they remained on good terms and even appeared together in the 2003 film It Runs in the Family, along with Michael and his son Cameron.
Diana was married to little-known actor Bill Darrid from 1956 until his death in 1992. She leaves behind her third husband Donald Webster, who she married in 2003.
"She was a person much beloved by everyone," Mr Webster told CNN. "One of her greatest qualities was that she was always thinking of the other person."
